Mother and newborn baby breastfeeding

After your second birth and postpartum, what do you know now that you wished you knew then?
I thought it was all about the baby, I knew becoming a mother would change so many things but I wasn't prepared for the complete transformation of myself after my first, I was simply not the same person. The second time around I read a lot on matrescence.

Did you change your priorities this time around?
Time for myself is so precious now, I choose carefully how I spend it and who I spend it with.

How do you balance motherhood, your business, your partnership and your own needs?
Probably not very well, but I am lucky to have a very supportive and patient husband who also understands this is a very busy season of our lives.

Most valuable advice you received?
To embrace the chaos. It has made me a happier and calmer mama.

Any conflicting feelings that surprised you after becoming a mother?
I was surprised at the strain on my marriage for the first year or so, we were both not prepared for it.

Beyond the Birth gives women the opportunity to share their postpartum experience to help other women going through the same life stage, because when we support other mothers by telling our story it makes the journey a little less hard and a little less lonely.
